Pest control is an essential business. Pest Control during the Covid-19 Pandemic is critical. It plays a major role in protecting public health and property for homes and businesses throughout Colorado. It may surprise some people that pest and wildlife control is an essential business. But think about problems with mice and the diseases that they carry like hantavirus. You do not want your food supply to be contaminated.
The same goes for flies and other insects that could invade food manufacturing establishments and pose a public health risk in your food. On a larger scale, mosquito and tick control is incredibly important from a public health standpoint with respect to all the possible diseases like Lyme disease and West Nile Virus and encephalitis. Without the work of your local pest and wildlife professionals these diseases could become more widespread.
As an industry, we pest control professionals are extremely thankful for being one of many industries that are recognized as being essential. We sympathize with those other people and businesses that have been forced out of work or out of business. The Covid-19 pandemic has touched every person and business worldwide and we all feel as if we are playing catch up to the new normal. We will continue to protect our nation’s food supply and infrastructure and lead by example when it comes to abiding by the CDC guidelines with respect to using a mask and practicing social distancing with our customers.
What does all of this mean for wildlife management?
Local wildlife has reacted in an unfamiliar way during the lockdown. Many animals began to creep back into the city where these animals are rarely observed. It’s still important to keep your distance from wildlife even though it may be enticing to get that good picture. We work with our customers to educate and remediate the human and wildlife conflicts. Calls have increased dramatically this year, probably as a result that more people are staying home and are aware of their surroundings. We have had an increase in calls for bats, raccoons, birds, squirrels, and skunks. All of which can be dangerous directly or indirectly from their feces or disease transmission potential.
Bringing it home
As an essential business we take great pride in protecting your home, business and family from the local pests and wildlife in the area. We are working longer hours and responding to more calls to keep you and your family safe. For some people, a single wasp sting can be fatal or cleaning out an old dusty shed full of white-footed mouse droppings could expose you to the Hantavirus. There are a lot of risks that the pest and wildlife industry try to reduce, if not eliminate, every day to keep you and your family safe.
We also want to reach out and thank all of the first responders, doctors, nurses, custodians, grocery store workers, on the road truckers, and food manufacturing people that have kept this country going strong during these difficult times. Know that we at Northern Colorado Pest and Wildlife Control are taking this pandemic very seriously. We strive to protect all our family, friends, employees and customers during this troubling time.
