Humane Fort Collins Animal Control
Brown Bat
A bachelor brown bat colony can be removed by using one-way doors. However, a nursery colony with moms and babies has to wait until the bats migrate. Once the bats are removed, the most important thing to do is seal up any access points.
Fox Squirrel
Fox squirrels are another common attic-dweller. Our animal control technician will trap or use one-way doors to remove fox squirrels from an attic. We relocate any trapped squirrels. When your attic is empty again, the area should be cleaned and sealed.
Northern Flickers
These birds are pests because of their springtime pecking. The males drum on metal surfaces, and the noise can be incredibly disruptive. We will try repellents to keep the birds away from your home. With the right permit, we can also trap and relocate the birds.
Pigeons, European Starlings, and House Sparrows Pigeon
We have multiple management strategies for these birds, including trapping, netting, baiting, and repellents. These three types of birds are not protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and are invasive, but we still prioritize their humane removal.
Prairie Dogs
Humans are running into problems with these common Colorado rodents more due to expanding development. The options for managing prairie dogs include fumigants, baits, or traps. We take care to avoid removing other protected species like the burrowing owl or black-footed ferret.
Rabbit
Alone, rabbits are harmless. Together, they can destroy your grass or the bark on trees. We manage rabbit problems through exclusion, repellents, and trapping.
Raccoons
Typically, these nocturnal animals leave humans alone. However, they might try to escape a cold winter by nesting in an attic or chimney. We trap and exclude raccoons, and all trapped raccoons are relocated.
Skunks
Skunks are an obvious problem because of their smell, and they can burrow under crawl spaces, sheds, and more. Unfortunately, state law requires that we euthanize skunks upon capture, so we can begin with one-way doors to remove skunks without harming them.
Garter Snakes
While Colorado is home to many snakes, the only poisonous one in our area is the prairie rattlesnake. We can trap, exclude, use repellents, and physically remove snakes.
Voles
Voles are not often seen, but their tunneling can destroy your yard, bushes, and shrubs. Most frequently, we bait voles. Rarely, we can try trapping.
Pocket Gophers
Gophers are another tunneling rodent you will recognize by their piles of dirt. Our management strategies are baiting, trapping, and fumigating.
